Avatar – A Child Hero

I copy this from newspaper because I like Avatar.

Avatar – A Child Hero

Animation is the perfect medium for fantasy, especially for Avatar : The Last Airbender, which is full of martial arts moves, magical feats and beasts.

This Nickelodeon animation series is set in a fascinating Eastern world comprising four nations : Water, Earth, Air and Fire.

Some of the inhabitants from these realms have superpowers called “bending” – they’re to manipulate the forces of nature. These people are called Waterbenders, Airbenders, Earthbenders and Firebenders.

In comes Avatar, the most powerful bender of all, and the only one who can bend all four elements. Avatar is a reincarnated being that is born into each nation every cycle, and his job is to maintain the balance between these opposing nations.

Unfortunately, the last Avatar disappeared a century ago, leave The Fire Nation free to go on a conquering spree. This power-thirsty nation has even managed to eradicate the people of the Air nation.

Of all the nations, the folks from the Fire nation are the most lethal because of their ability in manipulating the destructive element fire to their will. Plus, they have fleets of warships!

One day, a Waterbender called Katara (voiced by Mae Whitman) and her brother Sokka (Jack DeSena) sumble upon a huge glacier. Through a series of acciends, they manage to free a 12-year-old boy who was frozen in a glacier.

And what do you know – he is the long-lost Avatar. However, Aang (Zachary Tyler) doesn’t wan to save the world. He’s just a young boy who wants to have fun. But his fun is cut short when Prince Zuko, prince of Fire nation, comes hunting for him.

It’s truly refreshing to see a fantasy show not set in medieval Europe for once.

The makers of Avatar have managed to create a very beautiful and believable world through their anime-inspired art. You can see that they’ve done their research when you see the costumes, architecture and writing used in the show. (You don’t see Roman letters anywhere – you see Chinese writing instead.)

The martial arts movements are fluid and well choreographed as there is a martial arts consultant to ensure that the movements are real. Kungfu crazy kids will love this.

Avatar has a wealth of potential stories. It is infused with fascinating themes : the fire nation is an industrial nation that is not only destroying nations but the environment.

Should peace or balance be achieved through force or mediation?

Also, magic never fails to impress. Thanks to all this, the show has the ability to develop a great mythology.

Aang, the Avatar, has the potential to be the most interesting character because of his nature as a mysterious and magical being.

However, in the first few episodes, he lacks depth. All we know about the pesky superpowered kid is that he likes to goof around a lot, and that when he gets angry, he does scary things like make his eyes glow and wreck ships with his bending powers.

His sidekicks Katara and Sokka are stereotypical. Katara is the goody two shoes and more responsible older sister while Sokka is the brash, young, loud-mouthed warrior. Here’s hoping they develop beyond their designated roles.

The character that truly caught my attention is Prince Zuko.

One is tempted to immediately label him evil because he is the mean hunter chasing after Aang. But one can expect more character development on his part.

Unfortunately, the voice cast for Fuko isn’t suitable. Dante Basco’s voice just doesn’t suit Zuko’s brash and conflicted nature.

What Zuko needs is an older person’s voice that should sound deep, weary, cynical and harsh. What a hit Zuko would be if this were so!

Another point is that the series creator should improve on the script and make it less cliché.

Cartoon shows like Justice League Unlimited, Batman : The Animated Series and X-Men draw adult viewers because of their realistic plots, good voice acting and lever scripts. And let’s not forget awesome anime like Inuyasha, Princess Mononoke and Sailor Moon, which are hits with kids and adults alike.

I do believe that Avatar has the potential to be as great, or ever greater. But for now, Avatar is just interesting.

THE HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSE

I copy poem from newspaper coz I like it coz poem is ‘haunt love two lovers’. So u all might like poem……

THE HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSE

Looming in the distance
Tall and rising high
Far across the river
Eerily touching the sky.

As old folks tell its tale
A tale so old as time
Set with winds and gales
On one stormy night.

T’was told it was a romance
A love the father scorned
Between his daughter, a dashing young man
Their hearts were nearly torn.

The boy had loved his lady
Father threw him out
But nothing could be done, they loved already
Forbidden love pursued.

When Father left for town
The damsel rushed to row
The boat, she knew, led to the place
The lighthouse she did go.

Her suitor watched her go
Through the glassy window
He ran and ran; he ran to sail
Amidst the rain and gales.

But fate held its upper hand
Lightning struck the man
He screamed and cried
And fell and died
And lay still all the time.

The girl rushed out with vigour
To meet her suitor’s hands
But she saw his lifeless figure
And shock killed her at once.

Then the bats all flew around
Until the two were found
Their hands were clasped; locked in grip
Their bodies intertwined.

Up till this very day
The bats have never been away
The lovers’ voices are always heard
Their very final words.

Doraemon and Hello Kitty

Clear the monday blues!
Very lame.. -.-

but nevertheless, a nice silly joke to brighten up your day.. :p

============================
Doraemon and Hello Kitty were out on the streets one day.

When Doraemon saw Hello Kitty, he waved and greeted her, "Hello Kitty!"

Hello Kitty, however, didn't greet him in return. Why didn't she?

[]

(She didn't have a mouth.)

Now, she was feeling pretty bad about appearing rude, so she stitched a mouth on herself and went off to look for Doraemon.

When she saw him, she greeted him enthusiastically.

Doraemon, however, ignored her. Why didn't he acknowledge her greeting?

[]
(He couldn't hear her - he didn't have ears.)
